Parental Orders

If you are planning to become a parent through surrogacy arrangements, it is important to ensure that you have the proper legal framework to give you the rights and responsibilities of parents. You will need to consider applying for a parental order to obtain legal recognition of your status. Like an adoption order, a parental order gives you all the rights and responsibilities as if you were a birth parent.

You must apply within 6 months of the birth of the child, and be domiciled in the UK.  If you are bringing the child into the country from abroad, you will need to make sure that the UK border agency will approve the process first in order to avoid difficulties with immigration authorities.
